Collaborative Book Project 2024

Contribute a Chapter to a

Rural Business Book

And Become a Published Author in 2024

We’re looking for rural, regional and remote business owners across Australia, who would like to contribute their expertise to a brand new book – highlighting regional business.

Simply write a chapter with our guidance and support, and we’ll handle the rest!

It’s an easy way of becoming an author, and gives you lots of networking opportunities and marketing/PR exposure.

Keen? Read on…

“If you want to go fast, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.”

In business, you’ll soon discover that building relationships is one of the most important things you can do. Having others around you, who can offer support and guidance will open up more doors of opportunity than you could ever imagine.

Sure, it might be possible to go it alone and do ok. But this is where the above quote isn’t entirely accurate, as not only will you go further with the help of others, but success will also happen much faster as well.

Now, there are traditional ways to network and build relationships, such as turning up to local business events endlessly. Going to the hassle of putting on a bra, or your best shirt, dusting off the horsehair and dust from your boots, travelling several hours there and back (‘cause we’re rural or regional and nothing happens locally), and then trying to make awkward small talk to a bunch of awkward businesspeople who are all just there to promote themselves too. In the hope that you maybe pick up a client or a customer, or somehow meet the buyer from a large retail chain who can stock your stuff and magically make you a millionaire (#notlikely!).

You can also use social media, such as networking through Facebook groups, hoping to get noticed and seen over the noisy group communal shout of ‘buy my stuff’. You can also shout ‘buy my stuff’ (#desperate).

Effective? Not really.

Or, you can get a little smarter.

A smart collaboration builds genuine relationships (and often friendships!) without the need to get salesy, jump in the car or try to get your posts seen in among a sea of ridiculously annoying other shouty posts.

It usually involves a smaller group, and a cleverer tactic that helps you get noticed and seen, while you help someone else get noticed and seen, too. A win-win situation.

Over the years, we’ve consistently seen one particular strategy or tactic that gains business owners immediate traction and results. We’ve experienced it ourselves, and we’ve seen others achieve it too.

That tactic is in the form of a book.

A book will help you stand out and cut through the noise online.

But we also know, that writing and publishing a book isn’t easy.

It takes a fair amount of effort and isn’t something that many people are willing to give a go.

There is an easier way to write a book though.

It’s called a collaborative book.

This is where you only need to write one chapter. A small group of other complimentary business owners then write their chapters. And it all gets compiled into a powerful book that you can all market, together.

A book that could help set you apart and establish your authority and leadership in your industry.

A book that positions you for success.

And gets you in front of the other authors audiences, in order to grow yours.

Less effort than writing an entire 60,000-word book yourself – you just write 3,000 – 5,000.

No hassle of trying to get published – as it’s all done for you.

Far cheaper than trying to publish a book yourself – as you split the costs.

A transformative process where you get to tell your story so far.

A group of other like-minded regional business owners who genuinely get to know you, your business and want to actively help you to succeed.

Plus, a marketing strategy that puts you streets ahead of your competitors in 2024.

How a collaborative book works…

You contribute a single chapter on your area of expertise

Instead of having to write an entire business book of 60,000 words – you simply write one chapter of around 3500 words. If you’re really keen, you can write up to 5000 words.

The other authors involved each write their own chapters too.

We’ll coordinate the chapter topics between the group, to make sure the resulting book has a good flow of information – but we’ll make sure your topic is something you’re good at, comfortable writing about and which really showcases you and your business.

We handle all the project admin, coordination, editing, cover design etc. - all the publishing bits.

We coordinate the entire project, from beginning to end.

And all the tricky book production and publishing aspects are handled by us and our team, so you don’t have to worry.

This includes:

  • Editing and proofreading
  • Cover design
  • Internal layout
  • Publishing
  • Printing
  • Distribution
  • Marketing

You become a published author - and reap the rewards that come with it, with minimal work.

Once the book is published – you can now call yourself a ‘published author’.

If you’re a business owner, this is brilliant for positioning yourself as an expert in your field (author = credibility).

And, you’ll get to take advantage of all the marketing opportunities involved.

You promote the book to your audience – while the other authors (and us) promote to theirs.

Meaning you expand your reach, too.

It’s a win-win for all!

You don’t need to have been in business for 20 years – even newbies have lessons they can share.

You don’t need to be a perfect writer to get involved – we can help you.

And even the most ‘ordinary’ stories can be exciting and inspirational to others.

(The title and cover design will be workshopped within the resulting group so may be subject to change! If you have a better suggestion, feel free to let us know.)

      Stand Up and Stand Out

The world of digital marketing is not easy. It’s just so noisy and smart business owners must find unique ways to stand out in among the craziness.

Books might seem slightly ‘old-school’ in comparison to modern digital marketing tactics and trends, but they hold incredible authority.

Becoming a published author helps you to stand out as someone special, someone to listen to and someone worth working with.

It also opens up doors to opportunitites for speaking, getting featured in the media and more.

Contribute to Rural Business in Australia

One of the biggest draw cards of these projects, is you get to make a difference. We’re all about supporting and furthering small business across rural, regional and remote Australia.

To shine a light on the amazing achievements that often go unnoticed out in the bush.

This book project aims to highlight you and your business – showcasing your achievements and story – while also serving to inspire and educate other regional business owners.

There are only a small handful of books out on the market that really focus in on regional businesses, and we think it’s about time that changed.

      Our First Book…

      Rural Business Women

In 2021, we ran our first book project to produce Rural Business Women – Inspiration and advice to grow your business from regional Australia.

It was an incredible project, featuring Sarah (Co-Founder of The Rural Publishing Company) and 15 other amazing and successful rural, regional and remote women in business.

This book is now stocked across Australia in bookstores, has received lots of media attention and has been a real opportunity for growth and learning for the authors involved.

      Share the Costs of Publishing

Publishing your own book is not only time consuming, but often a larger financial commitment to do (our packages start at $4,497, but generally it costs $6,997!).

Contributing a chapter to a collaborative book however, allows you to share and split the costs of publishing.

          F.A.Q.

How do I apply to be involved?

If you’re a rural, regional or remote business owner, you can sign up straight away. Simply use the links in the yellow box above.

If you have any questions, or wish to discuss potential topics first, please get in touch.

Am I eligible to be involved?

If you’re located OUTSIDE the major capital cities in Australia – and you run a business of ANY type – chances are, you’re completely eligible to take part.

If in doubt, just contact us.

Why does it cost to contribute?

Publishing a book requires a team of specialists – including an editor, cover designer, internal designer, publisher, marketers and more.

All of this comes at an expense, which can be anywhere between $3,000-$20,000 if you try to assemble and pay a team of people yourself.

With a collaborative book, we can split these costs between us, making it much more affordable for everyone involved.

Plus – we also offer extensive coaching, two free eCourses and lots of other benefits all inclusive.

What if I'm not a good writer?

It doesn’t matter! You can be a complete beginner at writing and have zero experience at writing books.

We’ll coach you through the entire process, provide nifty writing templates and plenty of support.

          Why should I get involved?

Collaborative books share both the writing and the expense of publishing.

Its perfect for beginner writers who want to dip their toes in to writing books, without writing an entire book or funding it themselves.

And as a business owner, it also gives you more credibility, authority, media attention and client/customer attention.

It really does help you stand out!

Who is coordinating the book project?

This book project is coordinated by The Rural Publishing Company founders Sarah & Toby.

Sarah is not only Co-Founder of The Rural Publishing Company, but also Co-Founder of The Rural Marketing Company, Founder of The Rural Copywriter and Co-Founder of Rebel Equestrian Centre.

Sarah is a multi-award-winning copywriter and best selling author, with 20 years experience in copywriting, marketing and digital technology.

Toby is also Co-Founder of The Rural Publishing Company, along with Founder of Billing Metals & Manufacturing and Co-Founder of Rebel Equestrian Centre.

You will be working directly with Sarah & Toby, who will be coaching you through the writing process and coordinating their expert team to get the resulting book professionally published.

          What Our Authors are Saying

I am proud to be involved in writing a business book alongside these amazing rural business women. The opportunity to share my own story and to help others is truly an honour. If the reader can identify with our stories and take away something that will help them in their business and their lives then we have done our job.

I am really grateful for the opportunity presented by Sarah to participate in co-authoring the ‘Rural Business Women’ book! It came together really well and I learnt a lot about contributing a chapter in a book and getting published! Thanks Sarah!

Writing a chapter in this book has been both rewarding and challenging – thankyou Sarah for the opportunity. To work along side a wonderful group of strong, motivating rural women has been an absolute pleasure.
