Submit Your Manuscript
Submissions
We accept manuscripts from authors, all year around.
We have no set requirements, you can submit a proposal, a sample of chapters, or your full manuscript. And you can do so directly yourself – no need for a literary agent!
We take first-time authors and the more experienced of any genre or style – children’s books, fiction, non-fiction and more.
Keep in mind – we don’t accept all authors or manuscripts for publishing. We do have strict quality standards.
1. How do I submit my manuscript?
Simply fill out our easy submission form.
Or, if you prefer, you can simply email it to us at hello@theruralpublishingcompany.com.au.
2. Does it cost anything to submit my manuscript for consideration?
No, it doesn’t cost anything. And, there’s not obligation to proceed with us, even if you get accepted.
3. How soon will I get a response?
This will depend on how busy we are and what the team is doing at the time (for example, we may be travelling for our Regional Writers Roadshow events).
Quite often, we’re able to get back to you within days, sometimes, it might be several weeks to a month or more.
Note – we can’t always respond to every single submission. If we like your work – you’re likely to get a response promptly.
4. Does my manuscript need to be finished?
No. Many authors submit an early sample of their work, to guage our interest in publishing and get some early feedback.
We can also start aspects of the publishing process, such as cover design, while you finish off your writing.
So yes, it is worthwhile submitting your work early, as it provides a more streamlined publishing experience and allows you to spread out costs.
5. What if I don't get a response?
If it’s been a couple of months, and you haven’t heard from us, it’s likely that we haven’t accepted your work for publishing.
That said – sometimes emails get lost, so make sure you thoroughly check your spam or junk folders – and if in doubt, reach out to us at hello@theruralpublishingcompany.com.au.
